The annual Stringtime in the Smokies event was this past weekend, August 4, 2012. This knee-slapping good time took place at Pigeon Forge’s own Old Mill and Patriot Park. Featuring one day of musical acts, great food and crafters from across the area, Stringtime in the Smokies was a great hit!

If you’ve never visited Pigeon Forge before or don’t know much about the area, the tiny town it steeped in bluegrass and country/western music. Home to the Great Smoky Mountains it is believed that mountain men perfected their audibly stunning music and shared it with everyone, spreading a common love of these quirky and moving tunes.

This year’s event featured Appalachian musicians, Gatlinburg crafters, artists, pickers and more. All of the vendors and musicians gathered to create a unique and fun Pigeon Forge event that the whole family enjoyed. From performers on stage to mini, breakout jam sessions throughout the day, the men and women of this music love to collaborate and have great fun experimenting with other musicians. If you couldn’t hang around for one of the performances, chances are that you were not shorted on your bluegrass music! Kids of all ages enjoyed the fun and games, with the city of Pigeon Forge and local sponsors bringing in something for everyone. A variety of old-fashioned games were available to play, while the antique farm equipment on display gave a sense of the olden days to this event. No Pigeon Forge event would be complete without some delicious southern cooking, and luckily there was no shortage of it! With free admission into the event, guests could enjoy some Pigeon Forge food staples and enjoy taking some time out of their day to sit on the outdoor picnic tables and watch the world go by. In addition to all of these awesome events, the Smoky Mountain Cornhole Tournament was also held on the same day – a feature event that draws locals and tourists to the Stringtime event every year. Never seen a professional cornhole player? It’s not something you want to miss! If you couldn’t make the event last year, don’t worry! Check back next year, or stay up to date with us for all of the Pigeon Forge events you would love to attend.
