The original farmhouse that was first built at this location burned down but it was replaced in 1921 by a six room house, which is still there as the centerpiece of the restaurant. A turning point occurred in 1972 when the Bon Hicks and Bill Kilpatrick families purchased the 65-acre property and decided to run it as a beef cattle and tobacco farm. It was ran as a beef cattle and tobacco farm until 1976-1978 when they decided to put their time and investments into apple orchards. The restaurant was finally established in 1986 when the Stokely Hospitality Enterprises helped the Hicks and Kilpatricks open the Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant by adding on to the original farmhouse.
