MoonPie General Store in Pigeon Forge

A brand new store has just been added to the Pigeon Forge Parkway! The store celebrated its grand opening on May 11th, 2012 and has been filled with inquiring Pigeon Forge visitors since it opened. The MoonPie General Store is located at 3127 Parkway by Traffic Light #5.

You have probably enjoyed a Moon Pie’s since you were a child. However, you may not have known that your favorite childhood treat was born right here in Tennessee! The Chattanooga Bakery opened in 1902 and perfected the MoonPie brand in 1917. The MoonPie was actually created to satisfy coal miners who wanted something solid and filling because they often didn’t get to break for lunch.

In the 1930’s, when MoonPie began to develop its place among the Southerners hearts, the delicious treat began to be adopted by laborers of all sorts. A MoonPie and RC Cola was the lunch of choice and quite a bargain – you could buy both for only a nickel!

MoonPie has had quite the interesting history. It was sent overseas to troops in World War II, became the official snack cake of NASCAR, and has been thrown from Mardi Gras floats. There is even a large, illuminated MoonPie drop on New Year’s Eve!

When you visit Pigeon Forge, you can’t pass up the chance to visit the third MoonPie General Store. The store is stocked with everything MoonPie, fresh from the bakery in Chattanooga.

MoonPie has expanded from the original chocolate and marshmallow flavors you remember from your childhood. MoonPie’s now come in a variety of flavors, including banana and vanilla. Now they even have mini MoonPies, double MoonPies, and crunchy MoonPies!

The Pigeon Forge MoonPie General store is located in a group with five other unique stores, offering you a chance to explore some of Pigeon Forge’s favorite stores. Stop by on your way down the Parkway for an original taste of Tennessee!
