Weather in the winter months of Pigeon Forge

The winter months is a very popular time to visit the Smokey Mountains. Most tourist visit the area to ski or just to enjoy the scenery of a magical winter wonderland. There are also tons of exciting things going on in the area during the winter months which brings thousands of tourist in each month. Winterfest is a huge festival that the two cities put on annually. Everywhere you turn the are hundreds of strands of lights gleaming in the night starting in November. The weather is a very hard thing to predict in any place, but it is extremely unpredictable in the mountains. If your concerned about driving in the mountains during the winter months be sure to check the weather forecast before heading out. The city salts the main roads through Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg during any winter precipitation. However, the city trucks are not able to get to some of the winding back roads. Icing during the winter months is a huge problem. If your coming to stay the weekend and have rented a cabin most rental companies highly suggest having a four-wheel drive vehicle. Some of the driveways and roads leading up to cabins are not paved and very steep so chains might be required. Something you might want to check on before renting a cabin would be trip insurance. Most travel insurance companies will cover weather conditions. The charge of trip insurance is just a small percentage of your reservation and will guarantee your money back. If you are planning to be in the area during the winter time; trip insurance is highly recommended.

A Day in the Smokies

If you are coming to the Smokey Mountains and only have one day to spend in the area maybe this article will give you a couple of ideas on how to make your one day in the area count! The Smokies consist of two major cities; Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Each city has many different attractions to offer. Pigeon Forge is more wide spread than Gatlinburg. The Gatlinburg area is more congested. Gatlinburg is just a small “strip” mainly. There are tons of small shops and bakeries to walk through and peruse. One of the main attractions in Gatlinburg is the Ripley’s museum and the Aquarium. There is plenty of dinner and shows in Pigeon Forge. Most of your arcades and malls are located within seconds from the main parkway in Pigeon Forge. Both cities though have great restaurants and offer either free or costly entertainment. It will depend on what kind of activities you are looking to do.
If you would prefer to be outdoors rather than shopping and resturants you could go white water rafting, tubing or kayaking. If you’re an animal lover, you could go horseback riding through the hills and valleys. There are tons of riding stables in Pigeon Forge. You can request a guide. The Pigeon River is a really good place to fish. You can purchase a fishing permit for Tennessee for a small fee. A very popular spot to hike would be Cades Cover. Cades Cove has many different trails to choose from. You could also stop and enjoy the streams along the road for time of laughter and serenity. Along the way you may run across a couple monuments and old churches. There is a lot of wildlife in the ark as well. The scenery is gorgeous and makes it a perfect area to hike in.
Don’t worry! If your idea of a good time is being inside away from animals and the weather you could take this opportunity to sit, relax and enjoy the show. Pigeon Forge is loaded with dinner and shows. Everything from country music shows, to acrobatic shows, magic shows, and more! One of the most popular dinner shows is the Dixie Stampede. This is a Dolly Parton attraction that will feed your belly as well as your heart with good times, good food and good family. Or check out the Comedy Barn where they will have you laughing all night with their humor. There is also some museums for some of your famous stars. So whatever quest may be, the Smokies has it and is ready for you to come and enjoy your time with us!!
