The Wilderness Wildlife Week event kicked off in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee on Sunday, January 12, 2013. The 23rd year this event has been held, Wilderness Wildlife Week celebrates the nature and fauna of the Great Smoky Mountains. Want to know what is in store? Check out the information below to see how you can get involved!

One of the best parts of the event is that it’s absolutely FREE! Events are held all week long, focusing on skills such as photography, fishing, native mountain music and more. Speeches, demonstrations and musical presentations are all to be had and, believe us, there’s something fun for everyone in the family!

For the children, check out the new Kid’s Track program. Daily events will be held for the children, including  kid-specialized informative speeches focusing on learning about black bears, keeping the Smoky Mountains beautiful, and a history on Civil War soldiers. Spots are limited for the Kid’s Track events, so pre-register and save your spot today.

For the adults, there are endless presentations, hikes, tours and more for you to enjoy. The guided hikes are everyone’s favorite part of this annual event, and include hikes ranging from easy to difficult. Guided hikes are especially interesting, because your guide will point out unique flowers, shrubs, animals and more.

Bring your camera and check out the Nature Photography Workshops. Topics cover everything from what differentiates a snapshot from a fine photograph, and learning to see photography. These workshops are taught by renowned photographers and there are many art displays that you will love to check out!

Some of the most unique events to come to Pigeon Forge this year include wilderness cooking and storytelling! The wilderness cooking events are taught by real-life wilderness lovers who have adapted their cooking skills to include some of the tastiest items you can find right her in the Smokies.

The storytelling events cover nearly every topic, from the history of Switzerland to murder-mysteries in the Smoky Mountains. Check out the Cade’s Cove Heritage speech and Bears, Bulls and Boars – all about wildlife in the Smokies!

Wilderness Wildlife Week runs from 8:00AM-7:30PM daily. From January 12th to January 19th, you can enjoy these free events, all held at the Music Road Hotel and Convention Center. For a detailed schedule of all events, please visit: https://www.mypigeonforge.com/events_wwwclasslist.aspx
