It’s my favorite time of year to cuddle, so grab the blankets, get the fire going in the fireplace, and pick one of your Christmas movie favorites for some truly magical, heartwarming moments with the people that matter the most this holiday season – in a cozy Pigeon Forge cabin.

While visiting the extravagant winter wonderland of the Smoky Mountains during December, slow down after exciting days filled with the millions of lights, the kids’ favorite North Pole characters, and delicious Christmas treats. Bring more than just your family and make it a holiday gathering you can spend with all your most important loved ones to share in some extra fun Christmas activities in a large group cabin!

Since you’ll be in prime cuddling space in a beautiful, rustic Pigeon Forge cabin, here are some of my favorite Christmas movies, fun family activities, and more!

  1. A Muppet Christmas Carol
I do not care how old I get, I will always love Jim Henson’s Muppets and their rendition of the timeless classic A Christmas Carol. Watch Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the rest of the gang try to teach Mr. Scrooge the true meaning of Christmas with their usual well-meaning, but hilarious antics.
  2. Decorating Cookies
All the kitchens of our beautiful Pigeon Forge cabins come fully loaded, so bring the all the ingredients and cookie cutters for your favorite holiday treats such as gingerbread, chocolate chip, and sugar cookies. The kids will love helping you decorate their treats at the dining room table while you play Christmas carols on your phone.
  3. A Christmas Story
Laugh and share a funny Christmas classic as Ralphie attempts, to no end, to convince his mother to buy him an “official Red Ryder, carbine action, 200-shot, range model air rifle, with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time” and a triple-dog dare ends in a tortuous moment with a frozen flag pole and a young boy’s tongue! Though this film was released long before your children were even thought about in 1983, it is a long-standing Christmas season classic as it plays a multitude of times on TV. Catch a 24-hour cycle of the film on TNT or TBS on either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day!
  4. Fireside Cuddling
Many of our Pigeon Forge, TN cabins boast spacious living rooms with large stone fireplaces perfect for laying out numerous blankets and cuddling in front of the fire. Have the kids put on their PJs and make it a party with board games and hot chocolates filled with equal amounts of marshmallows. Read the Nativity story or some of the little ones’ favorite short stories hinging on this magical time of year like “Frosty the Snowman” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”
  5. It’s A Wonderful Life
One of the most loved movies of American film, It’s A Wonderful Life tells a story of second chances and redemption on Christmas night. Share this timeless tale with your little ones before seeing it come to life on stage during A Smoky Mountain Christmas in Dollywood!
  6. Painting Ornaments
You can choose whether you want to use glass or cardboard, just be sure to have ribbon, scissors, paint, and brushes! After visiting the Tennessee Heritage Arts and Crafts District, an 8-mile loop of the country’s largest group of artisans, you are sure to bring home plenty of ideas and inspiration for your family’s own little Christmas crafting session! Hang the ornaments on the windows for everyone to admire and feel proud of as you snuggle in front of the fire.
  7. Home Alone
This is an iconic movie for anyone who grew up in the 1990s! We all know that face when Kevin McCallister puts on aftershave and screams with both hands on his cheeks. Between crazy antics and hilarious booby traps, the laughter and shared feeling of rooting on Kevin is sure to bring you and the family closer.
  8. Family Fun Nights
One of my family’s favorite pastimes is trying out new games together. Let the kids pick out a new one while you are shopping or wrap one from home as an early Christmas present! Play late into the evening in the dreamy light of the stone fireplace glow as you learn to play, strategize, and bond over friendly competition. Late into the evening, laughter fills the night and reminds you what this season is all about. Games don’t have to be with cards or a board, either! Play a Christmas-themed game of charades or Pictionary for holiday-centered fun!
  9. Elf
This is a more recent film, but with a comedic cast like Will Ferrell, Zooey Deschanel, and James Caan, this heartwarming story of an out-of-place elf will keep the little ones giggling and quoting, “SANTAAAAAA!” for days!
  10. Explore the Christmas Wonderland!
This area is one of the most magical places to be during the Christmas season! Millions of lights drape the 3 major cities of the Smoky Mountains: Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg. When you choose to stay in a homey Pigeon Forge, TN cabin, you are close to all the enchantment. Return to your cozy lodging after touring the lights on the Pigeon Forge Trolley, pop in one of these Christmas movie classics, and cuddle up next to the ones you are thankful for during the most wonderful time of year.
